About the Hare

Now I love to paint, but I can honestly say, I have never enjoyed painting a canvas as much as I enjoyed painting my 5 foot hare.

The smooth surface of the hare was perfect for my style of painting. Many people have compared my paintings to hair, so initially I thought “Hair on a Hare”, however, I always find the art work takes on it’s own flow and direction as I paint. I had decided I wanted to use different shades of blue to reflect the connection of water in nature, rivers, lakes and waterways around the Cotswolds. As I said before, I feel the painting decides on the flow and colours/shades as you paint, this was even more evident to me than usual, as the contours and curves of the hare called for darker or lighter areas and where my brush strokes would flow. So even though I had an idea in my head before I started, in the end the Hare decided how he was going to look.

I have always had a love of drawing and painting. Opportunity for me began with an exhibition in a local bar, with my first collection of paintings selling on the night. More successful exhibitions and commissions followed, including a commission for the Seacourt Tower in Oxford, where my paintings can be seen from the main road into the city of Oxford and a successful exhibition at Philosophy Hairdressers, which was sponsored by L’Oreal Professional.

After a break to raise my three children, I have been aching to get back into painting again, so when the opportunity arose to be part of the Cotswold Hare Trail, I had to jump at the chance. I love the idea of showing off my artwork on such an interesting and eye catching form. The 5 foot hares stand out against any background.

My own style has been described as, “a unique contemporary style, combining vibrant colour with movement”, which I hope will bring to life this wonderful creature.
