Mad Marché Hare

About the Hare

The Mad Marché Hare is inspired by the leveret that I painted for Cirencester Town Council in 2016. I received a lovely response to the mini Cirencester Farmers Market scene that I depicted on the rear of ‘Aubrey’ and I wanted to develop and expand the theme of the Cotswold Market.

The Mad Marché Hare will have a number of Cotswold producers, makers, growers and farmers depicted. Bee Keepers, cut-flower growers, producers of free-range eggs, fruit growers, artists and craftspeople will be seen working and producing and then bringing their wares to a bustling Cotswold Market scene.

From the middle of the market there will be a grape vine that grows skywards to clothe the upper part of the Mad Marché Hare. This will represent the growing number of vineyards in the UK.

As a horticulturalist and an artist, it is very important to me to promote local producers, growers, farmers, artists and craftspeople as well as highlighting the beauty of the Cotswolds and all of its bounty.

Nicola studied Art and Design followed by Fine Art, then horticulture grabbed her and set her down a different (garden) path. Art has gradually crept back into her life and now the art and horticulture have combined to produce murals, photovisual pieces and, most recently, Cotswold Hares.

Nicola Hope is a horticulturalist and artist based in the Cotswold town of Malmesbury. She works with a wide variety of materials. During daytime hours Nicola can mostly be found creating beautiful gardens in quiet Cotswold corners and she is currently studying for the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society Master of Horticulture qualification.

When she has time off from painting with plants and flowers, Nicola enjoys working on large scale murals and photography. Nicola studied Fine Art specialising in photovisual studies at University of Wales Institute, Cardiff and she has had solo and collaborative exhibitions in Malmesbury.

Nicola’s latest series of pieces set plants, flowers and people against dramatically dark, midnight-blue backgrounds.

Plants are Nicola’s muse and the botanical world provides no end of inspiration for her artwork.
