Deep in the Vale when the farmers are planting their crops of Asparagus, they are not alone. Eyes are watching them everywhere.

These eyes are the Vale of Evesham hares, who are hopping around the crops, protecting these stalks of green and purple gold dust.  They protect it whilst the months are chilly and grey until the sun begins to warm their backs and the farmer returns to cut his crop.

It isn’t just the hares though. These special hares have beautiful little fairies riding on their backs helping with the duty. These little fairies are called Hareies. They live on the hare and have coats of green and purple and a headdress of beautiful purple soft plumes. They fly around the fields of Evesham warning off animals or humans who dare to tamper with the crop.

We wouldn’t have such an amazing reputation for the best Asparagus in the world if it wasn’t for the Hares and the Hareies, so we have to respect them and look after them.

I gained a Ba Hons in Fine Art (Sculpture of a sort) from Leeds Metropolitan University. My work was very kitsch and furry and featured 6ft moose heads and naked Vikings…I left Leeds and my first job was summer season on a magic show at Blackpool Pleasure Beach with snorbitz the dog. I also started designing backdrops and sculptures for nightclubs whilst I was there…

The next few years was a mixture of temporary office jobs with art jobs dotted along the way.  These included mural painting, Scenic artist at the Newcastle Playhouse Theatre, model making for Aardmans, Scenery for S4C…graphics for Per Una and more night club designing.

When I had my little girl Maisie 12 years ago. It gave me an opportunity to start drawing and making again.  I did various courses in jewellery making, bead making, characture and Photoshop.

I stared selling at craft fairs and began to get a good reaction to my work. I also managed to get an agent who I produced 3 children’s books for called My old Macdonald tab book, My Nursery Rhyme tab book and My Incy Wincy Spider tab book…I also illustrated a charity book called Grannies Bedtime Stories which was raising money for the Lions Club UK. And a colouring book of my artwork.

After 5 or 6 years of making and selling jewellery, badges, clocks….I started painting again.

I always use acrylic as they dry quick (I’m very impatient)..and watercolour pencils. I also love collage and using fabric and paint..I love a touchy feely painting. The colours are usually vibrant and bright.  I love drawing charactures and making up stories..and I love them being a little bit cheeky and humorous.  I enjoy seeing people reactions to my work and hearing them giggle and see them smile.

I took part in a pop up shop in Moreton in Marsh, running the shop for 2 weeks and selling my work was fantastic.  I loved every minute of it and met some amazing people and got loads of commissions. I started a Facebook page called Florence and Belle and sell from there.

Since then I have published 2 colouring books and another children’s book.

I absolutely love painting, making crafts, everything arty…I love selling my work and getting all the fantastic feedback and feel soooooo lucky that I am able to do this.
